EmpowerEd Leaders
At LLSE we know that increasingly teachers are taking on middle leadership roles earlier in their careers . Our EmpowerEd Leaders programme has been created to support organisations in providing middle leaders with the practical skills and strategies they need to make a positive impact. Developed by experts, the programme embeds essential “on the job” leadership skills to strengthen capacity across schools. It is focused around each participant completing an in school/trust project which is centred on leading an area of school improvement. 

The programme is designed for groups of middle leaders, rather than individual participants, making it ideal for MATs, Trusts or groups of schools working in collaboration who want an affordable and high impact middle leadership development programme. 

ILM Coaching Qualifications
For those who want to play a leading role in the coaching of others, we offer the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 5 Coaching and Mentoring Certificate. This qualification is for those undertaking coaching who want a good theoretical and practical experience base on which to secure their own coaching approach. Hywel Roberts

There are many reasons why Hywel is one of the most in-demand educational speakers around and why he is so much more than the self-styled ‘man in the Matalan suit’.

For one, he is an incredibly witty and entertaining speaker, as much at home in front of a group of ten-year-olds in a special school as he is a large audience of teachers.

He has that rare talent of being able to tell stories that both make you laugh and make you cry, often at the same time, combining his wide experience in all sorts of classrooms with all sorts of children with an academic insight into engagement, motivation, teaching and learning.

He also knows his way around even the most challenging of classrooms.

Originally a drama teacher cutting his teeth in some of the North of England’s most demanding school environments – including special schools and PRUs - Hywel shows how to bring the learning to life for even the most disaffected children and young people. In particular, he has drawn on and adapted the work of Dorothy Heathcote, with whom he studied, and her powerful Mantle of the Expert approach to learner engagement.

Hannah Knowles

Hannah is passionate about empowering individuals and teams to realise their full potential.

With years of experience designing and delivering comprehensive wellbeing programmes for schools, businesses and organisations, Hannah now leads transformational workshops and keynotes for a diverse range of Art of Brilliance clients, including schools, businesses, the NHS and sports teams.

Hannah has a background in Psychology and a passion for Positive Psychology. In fact she’s been described as the ‘Queen of Positivity.’

Sinéad Mc Brearty

Sinéad Mc Brearty is CEO at Education Support, the mental health and wellbeing charity for the education workforce across the UK.  She advocates for a systemic approach to wellbeing for the education workforce, attending to the individual, the workplace and the wider policy environment. She works with governments in England and Wales, using independent mental health and wellbeing research to amplify the voice of the education workforce.

Sinéad spent the first part of her career at KPMG before moving to leadership roles in the not-for-profit sector. She has worked as an organisational development consultant and a university lecturer and has been a school governor and charity trustee.

Nick Crane

Nicholas Crane is an author, geographer, cartographic expert and recipient of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s Mungo Park Medal in recognition of outstanding contributions to geographical knowledge, and of the Royal Geographical Society’s Ness Award for popularising geography and the understanding of Britain. Between 2015 and 2018, Nick was the elected President of the Royal Geographical Society.

Nick has presented many acclaimed TV series’ on BBC2, among them Map Man, Great British Journeys, Town, Britannia and Coast. He has been the lead presenter on more than 80 BBC films.

Lisa Ling

Lisa has been in education for over thirty years.  Lisa started her career in Cambridgeshire as an English teacher.  She then spent thirteen years in various senior leadership positions before becoming part of an executive trust team.  Lisa has also been the Director of Secondary Education for Whole Education and has recently been appointed as Interim Deputy CEO for the charity Red2Green. Lisa is passionate about providing a fully rounded and happy education for all.

Francis Akinde

Frances Akinde, a qualified SENCO, and former headteacher of a Secondary Special School for learners with Autism and associated difficulties.

Over the last 20 years, she has worked in various roles across primary, secondary, special/alternative provision and local authority. From an Art & Design Technology teacher to an SLCN advisory teacher liaising with speech and language therapists across a local authority. She has now returned to local authority work as a SEND inspector and advisor; a role she does part-time whilst managing her consultancy service.

In this workshop Frances aims to:

• To inspire headteachers to reframe SEND leadership through a child-centred lens
• To explore how purposeful leadership can transform SEND culture across whole-school systems
• To equip leaders with practical strategies for embedding inclusive values into everyday decision-making

Leaders will be invited to reconnect with their purpose and recognise what’s already working. Identifying existing strengths in their current provision and building from there.

Richard Daniel Curtis

Richard Daniel Curtis is one of the most well-respected experts in the social and emotional domain. His work has influenced millions, he has directly contributed to the RHE/RSHE mental health content, written 13 books, 3 social and emotional assessments and in his spare time is the father of 2 children under 10!

David Carne & Sebastian St John
       

David Carne leads on Business Development at LLSE. David edits our SkiLLSEt magazine, as well as overseeing our suite of Coaching, Supervision and Mentoring products and services. Having spent 16 years as a senior leader in a variety of schools, he is passionate about helping to develop exceptional leaders and creating organisational cultures in which people can excel. He has a wealth of experience in developing professional networks, building mutually beneficial professional partnerships, project and programme leadership, and coaching high performing leaders.   

Sebastian St John is LLSE's Programme and Development Lead, bringing over two decades of dedicated experience in education leadership. His career spans diverse contexts, from leading schools in the UK to an international Headship. Sebastian is deeply committed to school improvement, professional development, and the transformative power of values-driven leadership. An ILM-qualified Leadership Coach, he has played a key role in the design and delivery of NPQ programmes, nurturing current and future educational leaders. His passion lies in cultivating environments where both staff and students can truly thrive.

Phil Wood is Professor of Education in the Nottingham Institute of Education, School of Social Sciences at Nottingham Trent University (NTU). He is a Senior Fellow of Advance HE. His research focuses on the nature of change, particularly organisational change in educational settings, using process philosophy and complexity theory as ways to explore this area of research. He is also a research impact champion within the School of Social Sciences for the Social Work and Social Policy unit of assessment within the REF exercise.

Louise Hopkins and Karen Mirams
       

Louise Hopkins and Karen Mirams are School Improvement Executives for Swale Academies Trust working across the Primary School phase.
They have both been part of the Trust for over a decade had have developed their roles following the same pathway from Deputy Headship, Headteacher, Executive Headteacher and now into school improvement roles.

Louise is passionate about digital transformation, STEM, challenging gender stereotypes and advocating for children eligible for the pupil premium along with building headteacher confidence in being Ofsted ready.
Karen has a drive to support staff and leaders with the effective use of data and assessment alongside supporting our pupils by the use of technology to enhance their learning experiences.

For many, the evening is just as valuable, if not more, than the daytime conference. 

Join us for a relaxed evening where you will be greeted with a welcome drink and served a 3-course dinner, with light entertainment.

 

Back by popular demand, we are pleased to welcome back singer and guitarist, Matt Brooks. Matt is a versatile musician playing popular cover songs of various genres spanning decades. 

Matt will be setting the ambience to compliment the dinner service, before kicking it up a notch for optional [but encouraged] dancing.

• Cancellations with more than 4 weeks notice of the date - no charge
• Cancellations with 2-4 weeks notice - 50% of the agreed fee
• Cancellations with 1-2 weeks notice - 70% of the agreed fee
• Less than 7 days notice - full charge unless there are exceptional circumstances agreed with the conference organisers
